The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (We/Us/Our) collects personal information on the Financial Capability website about people who are interested in being a member of our Financial Wellbeing Network, attending our Financial Wellbeing Forums or who deliver financial capability and wellbeing initiatives aligned to the 2018 National Financial Capability Strategy.

This notice and the ASIC Privacy Policy, in particular paragraphs 1 to 41, form the collection notice in respect to the Financial Capability website under Australian Privacy Principle 5.

The terms ‘personal information’ and ‘sensitive information’ used in this notice have the same meanings as they have under section 6 of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

Campaign Monitor

We use Campaign Monitor to assist us collect your personal information. Campaign Monitor, is a contracted services provider and is bound by the Privacy Act. Please see Campaign Monitor’s privacy policy for further details about how they handle personal information, including their overseas storage practices.

By joining our Financial Wellbeing Network, you consent to ASIC sharing your details with Campaign Monitor, for use in relation to this service.

What information do we collect?

We collect personal information about you if wish to join our Financial Wellbeing Network which includes the following information:

  • your name and contact information (including email address),
  • if you wish, the name of your organisation and any financial capability program you deliver,
  • your feedback on any issues with our website or the services we provide, and
  • details of your visits to the website logged through your browser for statistical purposes.

We only collect personal information from you that is reasonably necessary for, or directly related to, our services offered through the Financial Capability website.

Without collecting your personal information, we may be limited in our ability to deliver our services to you, which could have an adverse effect on the success of any financial capability and wellbeing related initiative that you are responsible for delivering.

You can unsubscribe from our mailing services at any time by clicking the unsubscribe button at the bottom of the emails you receive through this service or by emailing us your request to unsubscribe.

How we collect information

Generally, we collect personal information directly from you through Campaign Monitor and Eventbrite, our contracted service providers.

At times, we may also collect personal information from others, including your employers or others in your organisation, that have given us permission to add you to our network.

How we use and disclose your personal information

We will only use and disclose your personal information for the purpose set out above. We may also use or disclose your personal information where we are required or authorised by law. For example, we may disclose your personal information to:

  • an Australian court or tribunal, or
  • law enforcement agencies to investigate any suspected breaches of law.

We may also disclose your personal information to others where:

  • you have consented to the disclosure,
  • you would reasonably expect us to disclose the personal information and it is for a related purpose, or
  • we reasonably believe the disclosure is necessary for law enforcement activities.

ASIC Privacy Notice for the user of Eventbrite

Information you provide to the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (US/WE/OUR) in the event registration form will include personal information as defined under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (the Privacy Act).

Purpose of collection

We are collecting your personal information to process and manage your registration for Financial Capability events, where applicable.

How will we collect and store the information?

  • We are using Eventbrite Inc. (Eventbrite), a third party located in the USA, to collect your personal information through Eventbrite’s website
  • Eventbrite will store your personal information in a password-protected account that may only be accessed by our authorised officers. Eventbrite may use your personal information for various purposes stated in Eventbrite’s Privacy Policy, including for marketing. You may opt-out of marketing communications by following the instructions set out in their policy.

What we collect

The information we will collect through Eventbrite from you includes your:

  • Full name, email address, phone number
  • Position and company/organisation
  • Accessibility and dietary requirements

Who is Eventbrite?

Eventbrite is a ticketing and registration platform based in California, USA. You can find Eventbrite’s Privacy Policy on the Eventbrite website.

Please note, Eventbrite is not bound by the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act (the APPs). If you consent to Eventbrite collecting your personal information on our behalf, we will not be liable for any act done by Eventbrite which is a breach of the APPs and you will not have any remedies under the Privacy Act by any act done by Eventbrite.

Eventbrite’s Privacy Policy states they may use your personal information for internal business purposes as well as marketing and advertising purposes. They take what they believe to be reasonable steps to protect personal information collected from loss, misuse, unauthorised use, access, inadvertent disclosure, alteration and destruction. You may also request that Eventbrite correct, update or delete your personal information by contacting Eventbrite directly.
